Youth Tobacco Awareness Program

About the Youth Tobacco Awareness Program:

We have set a goal of having this program receiving the Green Flag in the 2012-13 academic year.

Goals and Benefits

  • Reduce the use of tobacco among children

  • Prevent thousands of pre-teens from becoming addicted to Nicotine

  • Help eliminate tobacco related deaths

  • Convey the value of this Program to State Governments and convince them to use a portion of the Tobacco Settlement Funds for funding additional programs like the one outlined in this proposal

  • Increase public awareness to the damage that tobacco can cause

Program Outline

The Tobacco Awareness program we would like to implement will target the highly vulnerable children ages 8 – 12 years.

We will use the highly popular sport of auto racing to generate the enthusiasm necessary to keep the children’s interest in the program.

The plan calls for bringing our Tobacco Awareness program to schools, scout camps, and youth groups. The program will include specially trained instructors to deliver the anti-smoking message. Additionally, each visit will have a real racecar driver present to interact with the children and to autograph photo cards and other racing related promotional materials.

In addition to the support materials for each child, we will be bringing a racecar simulator to each of these presentations. This simulator has the appearance of a real racecar on the outside, however inside is an interactive video game that all the children will have an opportunity to play. The game provides each child driving the feel and sounds of a real racecar. There is also an outside monitor for the children waiting their turn to drive and to see how the driver inside the simulator is racing.
