(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway has begun the process of sending out special invitations to past and present open wheel championship winning drivers to make up the starting field for the 2nd Annual CARQUEST Champions For Charities race. The CARQUEST Champions For Charities race will be part of the CARQUEST Super Saturday program, which will feature the ISMA Supermodifieds, NEMA Midgets, and Pro-4 Modifieds. The special invitation only field of open wheel champions will sit behind the wheel of Wild Thing Kart Senior Outlaw karts and participate in a special 15-lap race while raising money for a charity of their choosing.

Stafford Speedway thusfar has a starting field of 12 championship-winning drivers, some of which were part of the Champions For Charities festivities last season, and some of the drivers are new to the Champions For Charities experience. Those drivers who will be making their CARQUEST Champions For Charities debut include 2011 Riverhead Raceway Modified champion Justin Bonsignore, 2-time Modified Racing Series champion Chris Pasteryak, and 2011 Stafford SK Modified® champion Ryan Preece.

"I watched the race last year and it looked like all the guys were having a lot of fun out there," said Preece. "It's nice to finally be a champion and I'm really looking forward to being able to raise some money for the Connecticut chapter of the Make-A-Wish foundation and try to help make a difference in someone's life. I've driven champ karts and flat karts before, but the Wild Thing Kart will be a new experience for me. But it looked like there was a lot of bump drafting going on last year, so it should be a lot of fun to be part of that race this year."

Among the returning drivers are 3-time NEMA Midget champion Randy Cabral, 2-time Pro-4 Modified Limited Champion Stan Mertz, Spring Sizzler SK Modified® champion Richie Pallai, Jr., 2006 Whelen All-American Series Division 4 Regional Champion Woody Pitkat, 5-time Stafford SK Modified® champion Bob Potter, 2006 Stafford SK Modified® Champion Frank Ruocco, 2010 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion Bobby Santos, III, 2003 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion Todd Szegedy, and 8-time ISMA Supermodified champion Russ Wood. For Szegedy, the Champions For Charities experience will take him back to the early days of his racing career, where he raced WKA Karts against members of Justin Bonsignore's family.

"I raced against the Bonsignore's for years and they were one of my toughest competitors in WKA Karts," said Szegedy. "They were the top engine builders at the time and Justin came from the WKA Karts like I did, so it's ironic that we'll be racing against each other now in the Wild Thing Karts. The race is going to be a lot of fun, each driver knows how to drive a kart and it should be some great competition for the fans."

CARQUEST Champions For Charities will not only see racing on the track, but there will be a race off the track as well to see which driver can raise the most money for their charity. The amount of money that each driver raises will determine their starting position in the 15-lap feature event, as the driver who raises the most money will start the race from pole and the driver who raises the least amount of money will have to start at the rear of the field. The remainder of the starting grid will be set according to money raised, with higher totals starting ahead of lower totals. Each open wheel champion will get a kick-start to their fund raising efforts with CARQUEST and Stafford Motor Speedwaycontributing $200 to each driver's charity. Stafford Motor Speedway will set up a donation page on their website where fans can go to make donations to their favorite drivers and charities and help their favorite driver start close to the front of the pack. Fans can check the Champions For Charities page on SMS Online for upcoming fundraising events that fans can participate in to help raise funds for their favorite driver or charity.

CARQUEST Super Saturday will take place on Saturday, June 30 and tickets are available and on sale now at the Speedway Box Office. CARQUEST Super Saturday tickets are priced at $33.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seating is priced at $35.00 for all ages. As always, Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking with overnight parking available.

A year ago Eric Decourcy and his family operated team, Decourcy Racing, set out on a mission to start a new fund raising activity for Racing Against CancerTM, the idea was indoor karting. This second annual event, which raised over $3,200, generated six times the donations from 2011!

The snow and rough New England weather would not phase most drivers who entered during the weeks prior, a total of 56 drivers would take to the Checkered Flag Indoor Karting roadcourse with various backgrounds from Micro Sprints, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Street Stocks, NEMA Midgets and the list goes on. At the end of the day it was Dan Winter claiming the bragging rights of the RAC 100 until the green flag for the Third Annual Decourcy Racing RAC 100.

The 2011 season proved to be a real winner for their benefactors.

The 2011 fundraising and racing season kicked off in January as Decourcy Racing hosted the first annual Racing Against CancerTM 100 at Checkered Flag Indoor Karting (CFIK) in Haverhill, MA. Family, friends, RAC supporters and karting enthusiasts came out in large numbers to participate in a fun-filled afternoon of karting events. Funds were raised via entry fees and other donations. Decourcy Racing generated over $500 for their first annual event. Plans are in place for a second annual RAC 100 that is scheduled to take place on Saturday January 21, 2012 at CFIK. This event should prove to be even bigger and better than the first.

After 16 successful years of raising funds to fight cancer, Racing Against Cancer™ jump started its new fundraising initiative, the Racing Against Cancer™ Track Walk program. The program took place at four tracks across the northeast during the 2011 racing season. The inaugural track walk was held at Stafford Motor Speedway on Sunday June 19 and was coined a Prelude to the CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Champions For Charities event. Three additional track walks were held at Thundering Valley Raceway in St. Albans, ME; (July 9), STAR Speedway in Epping, NH (July 23), and Seekonk Speedway (Oct 1) as part of the Kraze Korlacki Racing Against Cancer 100 event promoted by Gary Sagar.

Track Walk funds were raised by participants accepting sponsors/pledges that were credited to both themselves and their teams. Awards were presented to the adult, youth and team with the most funds raised and for the most laps completed. “Racing Against Cancer was thrilled to have our first Track Walk season be such a success and to be able to build upon the program for 2012” stated Scott Gregory, co-founder and president of RAC.

RAC will return to Stafford Motor Speedway in 2012 for another Track Walk when the Champions for Charities event shifts to its new date of Saturday, June 30. The Track Walk will be held in the morning, prior to racing activities. Additionally, a 2012 follow-up event is set for STAR Speedway, as the second annual Track Walk will be held on September 1st.

In addition to Track Walks, many other fund raising activities took place throughout the year. During the off-season, RAC made appearances at the Frank Maratta Auto Show and the Racer’s Expo. On July 30th, RAC was one of the primary benefactors of the fourth annual Jamie S. Rivera Car Show in Agawam, MA which raised $1,200 for the cause. On August 14th,Charlie Macko Racing held a raffle to benefit RAC at Twinstate Speedway in Claremont, NH. That event raised in excess of $1,400 for RAC.

Leading the list of the twelve Racing Against CancerTM benefactors in 2011 was the Ronald McDonald House of Providence which received a check for $15,000 from the proceeds of the Seekonk Speedway Track Walk held on Saturday October 1, 2011 in Seekonk, MA. Various Seekonk Speedway fundraising events were held leading up to the Track Walk including the Dunk-the-Driver contest, on-site donations and corporations that sponsored t-shirts and other items. ISMA once again graciously donated $2,500 from their RAC 100 event purse on October 2, 2011. Thanks to the hard effort of some of Seekonk Speedway’s biggest supporters, the fourth and final Track Walk of the 2011 season was by far the most successful.

Other distinguished Racing Against CancerTM benefactors for 2011 included the American Cancer Society, David’s House, The Susan G. Komen Foundation and Victory Junction Camps all of which received $1,000 or more. Other benefactors included Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Tomorrow Fund, Cam Neely Foundation, Chain Fund, Hole in the Wall Camp and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A new benefactor of the 2011 season was Checkered Dreams of Charlotte, North Carolina. Checkered Dreams provides youth with life threatening conditions a chance to enjoy a night at a local short track, meet their favorite drivers and even get a chance to take some laps in the pace car. A special highlight of the day is when each youth is presented with a specially painted authentic racing helmet as a souvenir as well as a visit to the pit area to obtain autographs from the drivers. A total of over $23,000 was distributed to benefactors.

Mark your calendars for 2012, as Decourcy Racing will host the Racing Against Cancer 100 at CFIK, on Saturday, January 21. Stafford Speedway will play host to the first Track Walk of the 2012 season the morning before CARQUEST Super Saturday Champions for Charities event on Saturday, June 30. Star Speedway will host some Labor Day weekend fun in the company of Outlaw and Modified racing action. A Track Walk will take place in the morning before the evening of racing action, on Saturday, September 1, 2012. Detailed event information will be posted on www.RacingAgainstCancer.org.

Racing Against Cancer™ is a Federally Recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the raising of funds for cancer research, patient services, youth tobacco educational programs, and awareness. The program’s events will take place at racetracks along the east coast from Maine to North Carolina during the 2011 racing season. The inaugural event will commence on Sunday June 19, 2011 at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, CT.

In addition to the RAC charitable event, Stafford Motor Speedway has opened its gates to multiple charities to generate funds for their particular cause this spring. The RAC Track Walk has been coined "A Prelude to the CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Champions For Charities." The Racing Against Cancer™ Track Walk at Stafford Speedway will lead up to the all new Champions for Charities event, a new element of the popular 8th Annual CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday.

"The CARQUEST Champions For Charities event was not only designed to help worthy causes but to challenge the drivers, teams, and their charities of choice to get involved and raise funds for their causes while having fun at the same time," said Stafford Motor Speedway Executive Vice President Lisa Arute. "Stafford Speedway is thrilled to be hosting one of the first Racing Against Cancer Track Walks."

The special Champions for Charities Senior Outlaw Kart race will include 14 past champions from different racing backgrounds. The starting lineup will be determined by the amount of money each driver raises for their selected charity with the drivers raising the most money starting up front. All funds raised during the Racing Against Cancer Track Walk at Stafford Speedway will be credited to RAC Champions For Charities driver and 7-time ISMA Champion Russ Wood. Currently Russ Wood and Racing Against Cancer™ will be starting the event from the third position.

“Getting the new RAC Track Walk program off the ground has been a major task, one that has consumed much of my time over the past two years, I am looking forward to June 19th,”offered Scott Gregory, Co-Founder and Director of Operations of Racing Against Cancer™. “This is something new, something that hasn’t been attempted before by Racing Against Cancer™. In the past, we were very fortunate for many seasons; however with the decline of the economy over the past three years we lost the majority of our corporate support and the flow of donations that were possible because of that corporate support have been negatively impacted. RAC was faced with a difficult choice to make a year ago, either shutdown or move forward with something new. I feel we made the right choice.”

Participants are encouraged to secure lap sponsors as a way to raise the maximum amount of funds, which are credited to themselves as well as their teams overall fundraising amount. Awards will be presented to the team and individuals that raises the most funds (both youth and adults will be awarded) and also to the team that completes the most laps. All materials needed to solicit lap sponsorships are provided to the participants after signing up and also online at www.RacingAgainstCancer.org.
