RAC and Checkered Flag Indoor Karting successfully complete 5th Annual RAC 100 Karting Race with $4,341 raised!

February 5, 2015 (Gales Ferry, CT) – On Saturday, January 24th for the fifth consecutive year fans and racers came together at Checkered Flag Indoor Karting in Haverhill, MA for the annual Racing Against Cancer 100 charity karting event to raise funds for Racing Against CancerTM. Despite the number of racers and spectators due to the snowy weather conditions that forced most to stay home, this event garnished $4,341 raised for RAC!!

This high speed karting race has become a fan favorite as it kicks off the 2015 fundraising events for Racing Against Cancer™. This event first held in 2011 generated about $500, last year it generated over $7,400 and with donations received this past Saturday RAC and CFIK achieved a 5-year combined total goal of over $20,000 raised for RAC! “We had an absolutely amazing event. Our goal was to put on a highly competitive go kart race for a good cause, and I really feel that we managed to do that” stated CFIK Owner Tom Prioli. “Although the pool of drivers was a bit smaller than last year, the intensity of the races was high all day long. I have to thank the entire CFIK team for their hard work and dedication in pulling off an event of this magnitude.”

The RAC 100 kicked off with practice early in the morning, followed by a drivers meeting and then heat events for the Adult and Junior classes. Last chance qualifying events set the field for the 35-lap Junior event and the 100-lap Adult event. All Junior drivers made their final event with the top-3 finishers consisting of Seth Rawles, Jacob Beauchesne and Chris Bauer. The Adults started with 42 entries and after 3 or more qualifying chances narrowed to 8 entries in the main event. Due to the karts configuration, a minimum of 3, 3-minute pit stops were required for each driver allowing for an exciting, unexpected strategy from all the racers. The top-3 Adult class finishers after 100-laps were Jeremy Decourcy, Leon Keniston and Alan Chambers. Decourcy’s win marked the 5th winner in as many events.

In addition to raising funds from racer entry fees, donations were accepted in various forms, including lap sponsorships, heat race sponsorships, trophy sponsorships, raffles and various other donations. Event t-shirts, RAC merchandise and apparel were also available on the day of the event. Admission to the event for spectators was a $10 donation.

Checkered Flag Indoor Karting placed a lot of effort behind the annual RAC 100 event. Major maintenance to all karts takes place the week leading up and throughout the night prior to the event to ensure all racers have a fast, competitive and equal kart for the chance at victory. Racing Against Cancer would like to thank the entire staff of CFIK for all the generosity.

Special consideration is also giving to Leon Keniston for managing the lap and heat race sponsorships, John Spence Jr for flagging all events, John Spence for announcing and everyone who donated raffle items and Foto Factory of Haverhill, MA for providing images of the event.

3rd Annual Racing Against Cancer™ Benefit Night at Bear Ridge Speedway surpasses previous year’s donations.

The 3rd Annual Racing Against Cancer™ Benefit Night at Bear Ridge Speedway, Bradford, VT., was held September 6, 2014. With a HEAVY downpour of rain during midafternoon, what started to look like a wash out of a night of racing and charity events turned into just the opposite. With the skies clearing, the racers and their fans soon started arriving and the event was held. The racers, their fans, track officials, and workers and independent photographer Buzz Fisher all made the 3rd Annual Racing Against Cancer™ Night a success. Special thanks go out to Chris Currier and Family, Wendy Fadden, and Erik Pelletier who made the event possible and helped with the running of the Racing Against Cancer™ tent and the night’s relayed events. Extra special thanks also extended to the owners of Bear Ridge Speedway (April May Preston and Butch Elms) who graciously welcomed our organization to their track for a 3rd year straight, whose donations were added to the funds raised that night to top the previous year’s total and whom invited us back in 2015. Donations raised from the 3rd Racing Against Cancer™ totaled $1626.33.
